My Objectives

Put simply, my primary goal is to make a long-term positive impact on the health of those around the globe that are the poorest, sickest, and most destitute and disenfranchised. I try to view all of my global health activities through that lens

As such, as we collaborate, I will always be asking: What is our goal? How will our actions impact the local existing health system? How will our actions on this paper/project/activity lead to more significant positive impact on those that are the most needy and have no voice in the future?

Perhaps most importantly, what interest or passion do we share?

I realize that there are a number of other motives that we have for working in global health, including getting a letter of recommendation, publishing an academic paper, reaching short-term programmatic goals, furthering a political philosophy, fulfilling a personal moral/spiritual need, having an adventure, gaining exposure to other cultures and people, getting experience by shadowing in the emergency department, etc. I think that those are all worthwhile goals that should be pursued, and I will certainly support them as long as they do not negatively impact the primary goal stated above.
